1. SUMMARY

This research is an observational analysis of the processes of reading comprehension in fifth grade children from school Thomas Carrasquilla, during the implementation of the hypermedia environment proposal made by the research group HIMINI in the year 2009 (which allowed us to make this academic work). This article provides information related to the hypertext, or digital texts as a tool for teaching and developing reading comprehension skills. Therefore, he examines the traditional methodology for teaching reading in Colombia, the incursion of ICTs (information technology and communication) in the world and in Colombia, specifically in the field of education, and the response of children to approach the text digital. Thus it was concluded that hypertext helped to improve the reading skills of children observed, as it generates a high degree of empathy with them, but also showed that it is necessary to prepare students in fields where technology is facilitating for teaching.

5. PRESENTATION

The research project "Foreign and understanding between hypertext and students in fifth grade Carrasquilla Tomas College" began in the third week of February 2009 and culminated in the third week of November the same year. This project was developed with the purpose of observing and analyzing the different processes that took place between hypertext and the students and their influence on the processes of reading comprehension. To this end, we took into account the theoretical contributions related to reading and pedagogy, hypertext (features, advantages and disadvantages) and technology.
The corpus of research is divided into seven chapters that consider the issues of traditional teaching reading comprehension in Colombia, the current situation of education in Colombia and Bogota in terms of reading comprehension, the emergence and influence of new Information Technology and communication in the world, the introduction of information technologies and communication in Colombian education. Tests were conducted surveys technology, literacy and progress of the processes of reading comprehension of hypertext in semesters I and II of 2009. Finally, we described the overall results and conclusions were established for the research work.

6.
OBJECTIVES The research project was proposed as a general objective evidence of the degree of effectiveness of reading comprehension in fifth-grade students from Thomas College Carrasquilla to have contact with hypertext through the reading of digital text. On the other hand, the specific objectives were: to expose the strengths and weaknesses presented in the reading comprehension process digital text by the fifth grade students, present and evaluate the reading comprehension process carried out on students during your experience with reading digital books, to determine whether the reading of digital text favored or not the process of reading comprehension in fifth grade students Thomas Carrasquilla school, establish the issues presented during the student interaction with Hypertext and analyze how influenced the reading comprehension processes linking nonlinear elements present in hypertext.

7. POPULATION AND SAMPLE

For the development of the research population was taken as the fifth-grade students of the College Thomas Carrasquilla which consisted of three groups (501, 502, 503) whose range of ranged in age from 8 to 13 years. As a test sample 502 was selected to the course which consisted of 34 students who in turn were divided into 22 boys and 12 girls ages 9 to 12 years of socio-economic level stratum three.

8. METHODOLOGY AND RESEARCH TECHNIQUES

To carry out the research methodology was used as a data recovery direct observation, surveys and field diaries. With regard to research techniques came to the call by using descriptive research case study, also attended the Ex Post Facto Research.
descriptive research was used because it enabled the systematic description of the characteristics of the sample of interest, On the other hand, it was decided to employ ex post facto research as far as possible to establish cause and effect relationships.

9. present difficulties

Regarding the difficulties presented during the investigation found that in the first half of 2009-1 Internet access was limited because in that period the school was Thomas Carrasquilla problems with connection to the internet; it was reported that most children had little knowledge about the use of the computer: Using the mouse, keyboard, programs, availability of time researchers (Mayra Monroy and Vivian Franco) prevented some visits were made because the school provided access times for the computer room.

10. RESULTS

The investigation determined that the approach to ICTs encouraged the children to new ways of working, the implementation of new tools for learning and markedly improved reading and comprehensive skills of students. On the other hand, made it clear that the evaluation of the processes of reading and understanding should not focus solely on textual production, but there should be a personalized approach by the respective teachers for feedback, and finally found that hypertext is a useful tool for teaching reading because its innovative feature attracts students.

11. CONCLUSIONS

With the completion of the research project was concluded that children in fifth grade school Carrasquilla Tomas felt more attracted to hypertext by common texts. Many times students need advice and help of assistants and some distractors (other web sites, games, etc.) interfered with the development of damnum game and reading comprehension, however, found that throughout the game development process and the reading of digital texts, the group managed to improve reading skills related to hypertexts. It was also established that it was necessary to prepare students in the proper operation of computers so that they improve their skills even more comprehensive (and management) of such texts.
